2010 GORE-TEX TransRockies Run Stage 1 Preview

In less than 24 hours, over 250 runners will step up to the start line in Buena Vista, Colorado to begin the 2010 edition of the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run and the inaugural RUN3 3-day solo run. Stage 1 covers over 20 miles of rolling terrain deep in the heart of Colorado’s “Banana Belt”, the Buena Vista/Salida valley which has a high desert climate and some of the mildest winters in the State.

Because of the climate, Stage 1 will feel more like Arizona than Colorado with sand, cactus and sagebrush along most of its 20.4 mile route. While there are no major climbs on the day, the rolling route inludes over 2700 feet of climbing on a fun and constantly rolling mix of doubletrack and singletrack through the classic high desert surroundings. Stage 1 has spectacular views back across the valley to the 14,000ft peaks of the Collegiate Range which will serve as a reminder of the high-altitude days to come.

The finish line will be at Railroad Bridge at the Arkansas River where runners will be quickly shuttled town the road to the first overnight stop where tents, gear bags, hot showers and a gourmet feast await.
